About Robert LaPrade, MD

Robert LaPrade, MD, PhD has specialized skills and expertise in diagnosing and treating complicated knee injuries. He has treated athletes at all levels, including Olympic, professional and intercollegiate athletes, and has returned numerous athletes back to full participation after surgeries. Recognized globally for his outstanding and efficient surgical skills and dedication to sports medicine, he has received many research awards, including the OREF Clinic Research Award considered by many a Nobel Prize in orthopedics. Dr. LaPrade is one of the most published investigators in his field, and many of the surgeries that he has developed are now performed worldwide and recognized as the “gold standard” for the treatment of complex knee injuries.

The most exciting technology in orthopedics from 10 surgeons

Ten orthopedic surgeons discuss the technology trends most intriguing for 2019 and beyond.

Robert LaPrade, MD. Orthopedic Surgeon (Colorado): I am most excited about technology that will allow us to perform surgeries more efficiently and anatomically. These technologies will ultimately lead to better patient outcomes and more reproducible results among all surgeons. Currently, one of the big […]

Posterior Tibial Slope and Risk of Posterior Cruciate Ligament Injury

Background

Recent biomechanical studies have identified sagittal plane posterior tibial slope as a potential risk factor for pos- terior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury because of its effects on the kinematics of the native and surgically treated knee. However, the literature lacks clinical correlation between primary PCL injuries and decreased posterior […]

The Influence of Naproxen on Biological Factors in Leukocyte-Rich Platelet-Rich Plasma: A Prospective Comparative Study

2019 Arthroscopy Techniques

Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders are one of the leading causes of physical disability worldwide, and the treatment and prevention of MSK disorders can alleviate substantial indirect and direct health care costs.1 Leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) has been used to treat the injured MSK system by initiating the healing and regeneration processes. LR-PRP is […]

Biomechanical Comparison of 3 Novel Repair Techniques for Radial Tears of the Medial Meniscus

2019 AJSM

Complete radial tears of the medial meniscus have been functionally described as being similar to a total meniscectomy, and they represent a challenging problem to treat. Without treatment, radial tears of the medial meniscus can lead to rapid joint degeneration. Historically, radial tears were treated with partial or […]

Surgical Repair of Dynamic Snapping Biceps Femoris Tendon

2018 Arthroscopy

A snapping biceps tendon is an infrequently seen and commonly misdiagnosed pathology, leaving patients with persistent symptoms that can be debilitating. Patients will present with a visible, audible, and/or painful snap over the lateral aspect of their knee when performing squats, sitting in low seats, or participating in […]

Posterolateral corner of the knee: an expert consensus statement on diagnosis, classification, treatment, and rehabilitation

2018 Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy

The posterolateral corner (PLC) was once considered the “dark side” of the knee, and it was not until recent times that consistent anatomic and biomechanical descriptions aided in improved outcomes. Several factors may have contributed to previous […]

Proximal Tibiofibular Reconstruction in Adolescent Patients

2018 Arthroscopy Techniques

Instability of the proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) can present as frank dislocations, vague symptoms of lateral knee pain, discomfort during activity, or symptoms related to irritation of the common peroneal nerve. An accurate preoperative diagnosis is imperative and should include a trial of taping of the PTFJ […]

Arthroscopic Complete Posterior Capsulotomy for Knee Flexion Contracture

2018 Arthroscopy

Knee flexion contracture is a clinically important complication that can be observed after trauma, after knee surgery, or as a result of osteoarthritis. When it is left untreated, knee shearing forces increase not only in the affected joint but also in the contralateral knee, leading to mechanical overload […]
