On Thursday, January 24, 2013, Dr. Robert F. LaPrade, orthopedic knee surgeon with The Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO, hopped out of knee surgery and onto the air live with Holden Kushner and Danny Rouhier, DJs with 106.7 DC Sports Radio. During the ten-minute live radio interview, Dr. LaPrade opens up about the current state and future behind PRP stem cell research. PRP is a biological treatment process that assists with the natural healing of a ligament, bone, or tendon. Dr. LaPrade compares the procedures that are currently being used in the United States with those in other countries. He openly discusses his hopes regarding more flexibility in this area from the FDA for surgeons to exercise in the U.S. as compared to other countries such as Germany.
Dr. LaPrade also comments on Robert Lee Griffin’s recent knee injury and surgery. While Dr. LaPrade himself did not perform the surgery, he discusses Griffin’s recovery process and athletic future as he heads into recovery. Known as RG3 in the sports world, Griffin is a quarterback for the Washington Redskins and the 2011 Heisman Trophy Winner. He recently had surgery for his ACL, which was a revision surgery from a previous ACL reconstruction, as well as a direct repair of his LCL.
