About Robert LaPrade, MD

Robert LaPrade, MD, PhD has specialized skills and expertise in diagnosing and treating complicated knee injuries. He has treated athletes at all levels, including Olympic, professional and intercollegiate athletes, and has returned numerous athletes back to full participation after surgeries. Recognized globally for his outstanding and efficient surgical skills and dedication to sports medicine, he has received many research awards, including the OREF Clinic Research Award considered by many a Nobel Prize in orthopedics. Dr. LaPrade is one of the most published investigators in his field, and many of the surgeries that he has developed are now performed worldwide and recognized as the “gold standard” for the treatment of complex knee injuries.

Repair and Reconstruction of Medialand Lateral-sided Knee Injuries

AAOS INSTRUCTIONAL COURSE LECTURES 2015

Surgical treatment of medial and lateral knee injuries using repair and/or reconstruction techniques is often necessary to restore knee ligament stability and optimize function. Successful execution ofthese repairs and reconstructions requires a sound understanding ofbasic anatomy and biomechanics. Against this backdrop, numerous repair and reconstruction techniques have been developed. Although me- […]

Outcome Following Anatomic Fibular (Lateral) Collateral Ligament Reconstruciton

2015 KSSTA

The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical outcomes following anatomic fibular (lateral) collateral ligament (FCL) reconstruction. It was hypothesized that anatomic FCL reconstruction would result in improved subjective clinical outcomes and a high patient satisfaction with outcome. All patients 18 years or older who underwent FCL reconstruction from April 2010 to January 2013 […]

Comparison of 3-D Shoulder Complex Kinematics in Individuals with and without Shoulder Pain, Part 1

JOURNAL OF ORTHOPAEDIC & SPORTS PHYSICAL THERAPY 2014

Shoulder pain is the second most common musculoskeletal complaint, with a reported point prevalence of 20.9% of the general population. In part one of this study the objective is to compare sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, and scapulothoracic joint motion between symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals during shoulder motion performed in 3 […]

When Is It Too Early for Single Sport Specialization?

AJSM 2015

Over the past 15 years, there has been an increase in youth sports participation with a concomitant increase in early year-round training in a single sport. Many factors contribute to the desire of parents and coaches to encourage early single sport special- ization, including the desire to give the young athlete an edge in […]

The Supine Internal Rotation Test

OJSM 2015

Biomechanical studies have reported that the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) functions as a restraint against excessive tibial internal rotation at higher degrees of knee flexion. The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of a supine internal rotation (IR) test for the diagnosis of grade III PCL injuries. The hypothesis was that […]

A Novel Posterior Arthrotomy Approach for the Treatment of a Large Osteochondral Defect of the Posterior Aspect of the Lateral Femoral Condyle of the Knee

JOURNAL OF BONE AND JOINT SURGERY 2013

Symptomatic osteochondral lesions of the knee pose a considerable treatment challenge to orthopaedic surgeons, particularly when they occur in young active patients. This case report studies a patient with a large osteochondral lesion of the posterior aspect of the lateral femoral condyle of the knee. The study also outlines […]

Radiographic Identification of the Primary Lateral Ankle Structures

AJSM 2014

Lateral ankle ligament injuries rank among the most frequently observed athletic injuries, requiring repair or reconstruction when indicated. However, there is a lack of quantitative data detailing the ligament attachment sites on standard radiographic views. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively describe the anatomic attachment sites of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), […]

Stress Radiography for the Diagnosis of Knee Ligament Injuries: A Systematic Review

CLINICAL ORTHOPAEDICS AND RELATED RESEARCH 2014

Stress radiography is a widely used diagnostic tool to assess injury to the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments and the medial and lateral structures of the knee. However, to date, numerous techniques have been reported in the literature with no clear consensus as to which methodology is best for assessing […]

Magnetic resonance imaging characterization of individual ankle syndesmosis structures in asymptomatic and surgically treated cohorts

KSSTA 2014

Historically, syndesmosis injuries have been underdiagnosed. The purpose of this study was to characterize the 3.0-T MRI presentations of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis and its individual structures in both asymptomatic and injured cohorts.

It was concluded that pre-operative 3.0-T MRI demonstrated excellent accuracy in the diagnosis of syndesmotic ligament tears and allowed for the visualization of […]

Prospective Outcomes of Young and Middle-Aged Adults With Medial Compartment Osteoarthritis Treated With a Proximal Tibial Opening Wedge Osteotomy

JOURNAL OF ARTHROSCOPIC AND RELATED SURGERY 2011

The purpose of this study was to conduct a prospective outcome analysis of proximal tibial opening wedge osteotomies performed in young and middle-aged patients (aged < 55 years) for the treatment of symptomatic medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee.
