About Robert LaPrade, MD

Robert LaPrade, MD, PhD has specialized skills and expertise in diagnosing and treating complicated knee injuries. He has treated athletes at all levels, including Olympic, professional and intercollegiate athletes, and has returned numerous athletes back to full participation after surgeries. Recognized globally for his outstanding and efficient surgical skills and dedication to sports medicine, he has received many research awards, including the OREF Clinic Research Award considered by many a Nobel Prize in orthopedics. Dr. LaPrade is one of the most published investigators in his field, and many of the surgeries that he has developed are now performed worldwide and recognized as the “gold standard” for the treatment of complex knee injuries.

Doxycycline Improves Tendon and Cartilage Pathologies in Preclinical Studies: Current Concepts

Authors:

Robert S Dean, David H Kahat, Nathan R Graden, Nicholas N DePhillipo,1, Robert F LaPrade

Abstract:

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are enzymes that are elevated during states of inflammation and have specifically been linked to cartilage, tendon and bone pathologies. Concentrations of these enzymes fluctuate naturally […]

Editorial Commentary: Comparing Medial and Lateral Meniscal Root Tears Is Like Comparing Apples and Oranges

Authors:

Robert F. LaPrade, M.D., Ph.D., Nicholas N. DePhillipo, M.S., A.T.C., O.T.C., and Christopher M. Larson, M.D.

Abstract:

The importance of treating meniscal root tears has been increasingly recognized, and surgeons have to make conscious decisions routinely regarding repair for select patients. The clinical and patient demographic differences between medial and lateral meniscal root tears are important […]

Editorial Commentary: Shedding Light on the Posterolateral Corner of the Knee: Can We Do it With the Scope? Is There a Real Benefit?

Authors:

Jorge Chahla, M.D., Ph.D., Editorial Board, Brady T. Williams, M.D., and Robert F. LaPrade, M.D., Ph.D.

Abstract:

Historically described as the “dark side of the knee,” the posterolateral corner of the knee has been a significant focus of anatomic, biomechanical, and clinical outcomes research due to poor treatment outcomes for these injuries before improvements over the […]

Incidence of Displaced Posterolateral Tibial Plateau and Lateral Femoral Condyle Impaction Fractures in the Setting of Primary Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear

Abstract

Bone bruising of the posterolateral tibial plateau and the lateral femoral condyle sulcus terminalis has a well-established association with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. Impaction fractures of the femur and tibia may occur in these locations; however, there is a paucity of literature describing these fractures.

Morphologic Variants of Posterolateral Tibial Plateau Impaction Fractures in the Setting of Primary Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear

Abstract

Impaction fractures of the posterolateral tibial plateau commonly occur in the setting of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, with considerable variability found in fracture size and morphologic features.  The primary objective was to characterize different morphologic variants of posterolateral tibial plateau impaction fractures. The secondary objective was to investigate the association between these impaction […]

Nonanatomic Placement of Posteromedial Meniscal Root Repairs: A Finite Element Study

Authors

B. Steineman, R. LaPrade, T.L. Haut Donahue

Abstract

Nonanatomic placement of posteromedial meniscal root repairs alters knee mechanics; however, little is known about how the position and magnitude of misplacement affect knee mechanics. Finite element knee models were developed to assess changes in cartilage and meniscus mechanics for anatomic and various nonanatomic repairs with respect to […]

ACL and Posterolateral Corner Injuries

Abstract

The importance of the posterolateral corner (PLC) with respect to knee stability, particularly in the setting of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficiency, has become more apparent in recent years. The purposes of this article are to review the current concepts of PLC injuries and to address their role in the ACL-deficient and […]
